The Donkeys Will Take Us Out

Wednesday, June 21st, 2006

This weekend was Father’s Day, and what did I get? Well, I got a box of chocolates and… some weighing scales. What is this supposed to tell me?

Sadly, I had to contemplate this from my living room as I was denied from enjoying the outdoor world by dint of my terrible hayfever over the weekend. So, Sarah took the kids out with her parents to… a Donkey Derby. Yes, and even after all we’ve learned from IDGAMAA day, I’m not sure that we’re ready for this….

Man of the Match

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

This morning Callum played his third match with his team Bolton Woods. It was an away match against Queensbury, and after a hard fought and well balanced 0-0 first half, the home team pulled ahead with a couple of fine strikes to win 2-0.

But Callum certainly showed his value to the team, playing a strong defence and leading well. He was moved from left back to central defender, and won himself this week’s Bolton Woods Man of the Match.

Well done Callum! And for the honour, he gets to keep this trophy for the week.

The Fog of War

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

The day began frosty and bright for us, but we live at the top of a hill, and as I’ve pointed out before this can have some intriguing weather consequences. Today was exactly that way, and though we woke up to a day that seemed sunny and bright, it turned out that the rest of Bradford was in a dismal murky fog.

But sporting calendars don’t give a damn about weather conditions, and hang it all we had football to do today! And do we know how to prepare? Sure we do. Knowing that we were going to be stood in a muddy field for an hour or so, of course we decided to dress Baby E in a white fluffy coat.

With the Lights Out, He’s Less Dangerous

Callum is a feral child at heart, this much we know. It’s just that he’s the sort of feral child who likes the comforts of home – you know, warmth, shelter, regular meals, running water, Playstations, DVDs and all that kind of thing. Otherwise, totally feral.

The Post of Christmas Past

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

Usually on Christmas Eve I spend the evening watching Sarah and my friend Alan frantically wrapping presents while I guzzle away red wine and Stella Artois. Not this time, though – all the wrapping was done, so we ALL drank Stella Artois!
