Man of the Match

Sunday, February 5th, 2006

This morning Callum played his third match with his team Bolton Woods. It was an away match against Queensbury, and after a hard fought and well balanced 0-0 first half, the home team pulled ahead with a couple of fine strikes to win 2-0.

But Callum certainly showed his value to the team, playing a strong defence and leading well. He was moved from left back to central defender, and won himself this week’s Bolton Woods Man of the Match.

Well done Callum! And for the honour, he gets to keep this trophy for the week.

aka: Just Don’t Ask Me To Shuffle the Deck!

Evelyn got a poorly thumb, and we had to take her to the hospital for three consecutive days to get her mended. (And yes, that is Homer and Lisa on the TV.)

Three Step

Have you heard Paul Anka’s “Rock Swings”? What I love about that album is everything. It’s a 60′s singer singing a 40′s swing band style for today’s songs. It’s beautifully done, and if you haven’t heard it, you’re missing something truly special. Seriously, it makes a musical joke so damn well – exquisitely, it’s mixing the generations.

Life wants us to be together with generations. Family is more than 2 connections long. Before Sarah became a nurse, she was a hairdresser, and she still cuts her Grandma’s hair. Now, Evelyn goes along for the gig.

The Fog of War

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006

The day began frosty and bright for us, but we live at the top of a hill, and as I’ve pointed out before this can have some intriguing weather consequences. Today was exactly that way, and though we woke up to a day that seemed sunny and bright, it turned out that the rest of Bradford was in a dismal murky fog.

But sporting calendars don’t give a damn about weather conditions, and hang it all we had football to do today! And do we know how to prepare? Sure we do. Knowing that we were going to be stood in a muddy field for an hour or so, of course we decided to dress Baby E in a white fluffy coat.

They Come In Threes. And Also Fives.

Saturday, January 14th, 2006

I have five children, but it’s not often that I have them all together at the same time. Most times I have them in shifts, as they all have pretty hectic social lives. Including Baby E.

Today was the exception, with all of them here in da house in full force. Our tiny house, that struggles to keep bound at the seams while the five of us prize ourselves into every inch of its cramped inner space, suddenly had to accommodate not only Tamara and Cherie extra, but also Derry’s friend Tom. Sure, I had to bolster some outside walls with hastily improvised buttresses, but bless it all, somehow she made it through.
